A Patriots Fan Celebrates the Jets Hiring of Adam Gase

Adam Gase

After giving it a considerable amount of thought overnight and into the morning, I’ve come to a conclusion. Patriots fans couldn’t have had the Jets hire a better head coach than Adam Gase if we were their selection committee. As a matter of fact, the only thing better than reading Jets fans twist themselves into logical pretzels trying to justify Gase’s hiring is the hiring itself. I was almost tempted to say the only thing better for us would’ve been the Jets bringing Rex Ryan back. But the truth is, by the time they were letting Shrex go to Buffalo, I was sufficiently terrified of his defensive schemes and wanted him as far away from the AFC East as possible. With Gase, there is none of that fear.

I’ll say this for the man. If you’re down 33-28 with seconds left on the clock and need a bizarro hook & ladder play with a half dozen laterals to pull out a miracle win, he’s your guy. He’s got the track record to prove it. Beyond that rather narrow job qualification, here’s what the Jets are getting:

–A coach who admits there’s no way to stop the Patriots’ end-of-the-1st half/start-of-the-2nd half double score.
–A coach who had a former 2nd round pick revolt on him in the middle of a game and ended up releasing him, while the player posted “free at last” on his Insta.
–A coach who has repeatedly violated injury reports, including listing his $77 million franchise QB as a “full participant” in a practice he missed most of. And when asked about it, hid behind HIPAA laws.

–And a coach who lost his only playoff game 30-12.

In other words, the perfect choice to be an AFC East head coach again. And as the Pats three opponents keep passing off coaches to each other the way a band passes around groupies at a backstage party, we’re only left to hope that Brian Flores doesn’t take the Dolphins job. Because we know it’ll be doomed to failure, he’ll be fired in three years and then no doubt end up getting hired in Buffalo. And since you asked, once the Miami job is filled, that will bring the total of opposing AFC East head coaches since Bill Belichick came to the division to 26. Or 24, if you don’t count the retreads like Adam Gase. Keep doing you, Jets.
