Do You Think You Can Walk 18 Miles Straight On No Sleep Then Survive The Next Day?
OUT OF THE DARKNESS - We are very pleased to announce that the 2014 Out of the Darkness Overnight Walks will be taking place in Seattle, Washington on June 14-15 and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 28-29. Join us as we unite coast to coast and make suicide prevention a national priority. The more of us that take part in the Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk this June, the louder our voice will be and the more help we can offer to those affected by suicide and mental disorders.
The Out of the Darkness Overnight is a fundraising walk like no other. It’s a 16-18 mile journey through the night, from dusk until dawn, where a courageous community of men and women like you will break the silence and bring the issues of depression and suicide into the light.
Why We Walk: A suicide attempt happens every minute of every day. Every 14 minutes, someone in the U.S. dies by suicide. These statistics are staggering and yet remain hidden and not discussed. We walk to bring the issues of suicide, depression, and mental disorders into the spotlight and to continue the work of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – work that will truly save lives.
So a lot of people, including a handful of Stoolies, are taking part in this nighttime stroll around Philly to raise money and awareness for depression and suicide prevention. Obviously a great cause because if you ever had or knew someone who suffers/ed from depression, or worse had to experience someone close taking their own life, it sucks. No other way to put it.
I support the walk 100%, but people are trying to get me to actually stride it out for 18 miles overnight. Honestly, I don’t think I would survive. At this point I get winded battling a flight of stairs. There’s no way I wouldn’t cross the finish line looking like Kramer wrapping up the AIDS Walk, and that’s if I make it that far. Which is a huge if.
Regardless of my imperfections of a former D-III athlete, you should check out all the info of this great cause here and sign up here for the walk. Below a link to donate to a team involved if you so choose, too. It’s to big time Stoolie Craig Robinson’s squad. Craig was a contestant on The Bachelorette a couple years back before he got his ass kicked to the curb with like 3 people left. He’s walking in honor of friend and former model/Bachelor star, Gia Allemand. Again, it’s a great event to bring awareness to a meaningful cause. Support it if you can.
