The Broncos Hire Bears DC Vic Fangio As Head Coach
The Bears defense was prolific this year, and Fangio is known for also building the outstanding San Fransisco defense back in 2011. However, he is also known to not really be a players coach, and has a reputation as being sort of a no-nonsense guy. I’m not sure if this is the right fit for a team with an extremely green offense and established defense, but I guess that’s why I’m not John Elway. Denver ranked 22nd in the league in sacks, which you might not have thought considering Von Miller and Bradley Chubb were both in the top 10 sack leaders in the league. They were also 28th in tackles, but T-7th in forced fumbles, 9th in interceptions. They have the personel to have a great front 7, but their secondary is going to depend on how good Chris Harris Jr. is on his return from injury and how they draft in this upcoming year. Bill Musgrave is set to be fired, so a big part of Fangio’s success will depend on who he hires to replace him. They’re extremely raw and need someone with experience developing young players, as well as someone that can either help draft/develop young QB or get Keenum back to being a true game manager. I have no clue how prepared he is for this, considering how he was vocal about the fact that he didn’t prepare at all for any of his HC interviews last week. The last thing I’ll note is that this guy is 60 years old, been coaching since he was 21 years old, and been coaching in the NFL for the last 32 years on successful teams but never been named a head coach before. I think there is a reason for that, but I’m welcome to be proven wrong.
