Let's Check In On Manny Machado Rumors
Manny Machado. White Sox. The former playing for the latter is the one and only thing that can get me through that dog shit loss by the Bears. Now, I’ve since dispelled the rumor that Machado was at the game with Reinsdorf last night (he wasn’t) but there is so much smoke surrounding the Sox and Machado that it’s hard to not get excited that he might actually be playing for the Sox this coming year. It’ll have to happen soon, because pitchers and catchers report to spring training in just over a month.
Sox fans are freaking the FUCK out that they won’t go over 7 years for him. Well why would they need to when other teams won’t go over say… 5 years? They’d just be outbidding themselves. No need to do so if they have the best offer on the table so far. I have also confirmed with a #source that Levine is indeed correct… the Sox won’t go over 7 years right now. Key words “right” and “now”. Will they go to 8 years if need be? 9? 10? Yes. I do believe they will if they need to. Right now they don’t, however.
Was also recently told that a part of the new deal with Comcast came with a contingency – that the Sox need to start spending like the big boys. Obviously Reinsdorf can’t guarantee that Machado or Harper will be a bombing baseballs in Bridgeport next year, but they have to start spending and being “in” on big time free agents.
It’s absurd how limited the market is for two of the most prized free agents in MLB history. I’ve never been so sure of a strike in my life once the current CBA expires, which will be right in the heart of the Sox contending window. Awesome!
