Staley deserved better than to go like this. He coulda stayed in Decatur and retired. Lived a nice quiet life down there that didn’t involve all this damn heartbreak. But, he rolled with us and now he’s dead. Dead by thud. I want to go with him. Just lay me down in the horrendous Soldier Field grass. Give my ACLs to a future long snapper who could use them better than me.
