The Most Important Fake Top-25 College Basketball Rankings On The Internet

So every Monday I’ll be putting these together. But, what I want to do each week, besides rack up hopeful pageviews by people getting mad about where their team is, is address some of the biggest questions of the previous week. Now, the way I plan on doing these rankings is a combo of looking forward and looking behind. So take some of the results that we’ve seen, but also try to predict who will be the best teams going forward.

2. Michigan (2)

Dropped Out: Arizona State (16), Wisconsin (21)

A relatively calm week in college basketball, especially for the top teams. The top-10 all stay the same but I am bumping Kentucky up to 11 after the win at Louisville. I’ve talked about it before, but we have seen this now two years in a row for Kentucky. They take a weird or bad looking loss early in the season, eventually get that signature win (last year was at West Virginia) and start to look the part of a top-10ish team in the country again. That’s where we are now after the wins vs UNC and at Louisville. So with the road win over a top-40 team, I’m bumping them up a few spots heading into conference play.

Now, let’s talk about Wisconsin for a second. They have two quality wins – neutral over Oklahoma and home vs NC State. But, they haven’t looked right lately, most notably with the loss at Western Kentucky over the weekend. They didn’t beat a top-100 team in the month of December. They have 1 top-200 win and that was a 5 point win over Rutgers. Right now they have Ethan Happ on a consistent basis, usually D’Mitrik Trice and maybe Brad Davison. Other than that there’s simply not consistency on the offensive side of the ball for Wisconsin. So for now they are out of my top-25.

And you probably notice it – but no Pac-12 teams now. That’s just pathetic for a conference that has teams like Arizona, UCLA, USC, Oregon, Washington, etc. How do you not have one team ranked. I mean, sure Arizona State beat Kansas last week but they also lost to Princeton at home. That conference is just an absolute mess.

We’ll be back with some movement in the rankings after this week with conference play starting. More importantly we’re back with multiple games per week instead of typically just 1 for everyone with finals and the holidays.
