If Last Night's Absolute Shit Show Of A Loss Doesn't Get Dave Hakstol Fired, Then There Is No Hope

Philadelphia Flyers v Calgary Flames

Up 5-3 with under 2 minutes to go. I was just getting ready to call it a night and head to bed. The Sixers had already lost but at least my head could hit the pillow nicely knowing that the Flyers took care of business up in Calgary after getting their dicks kicked in by Winnipeg on Sunday. But I figured, “ya know what? This is the Philadelphia Flyers we’re talking about here. And no lead is ever safe with them regardless of how much time is left on the clock”. So I decide to catch the final two minutes of the game and then the clock hits 1:08, and with the goalie pulled for Calgary, Rasmus Anderssoon scores off a bullet from the point to make it a 1-goal game.

Okay. No biggie. The Flyers had already had to kill off 4 different penalties in the 3rd period while holding onto the lead and they did just that. Granted, they’re a bunch of fucking idiots for taking 4 penalties in the 3rd period in the first place but they killed those off and it was only a matter of time before Calgary put one in the back of the net with a man advantage. Good for Rasmus Andersson to pot home his first career goal but the Flyers still have a lead with only 68 seconds to go. Surely they can’t give up 2 goals in the final 1:08 with Calgary’s goalie pulled, right? WRONG.

With under 10 seconds to go in the game, Sean Monahan puts home a rebound that sends this game to overtime. There were 69 seconds left on the clock when the Flyers still had a 2-goal lead. But just over a minute later, that lead was completely gone and I think everybody in the world saw it coming the moment Andersson scored to make it a 1-goal game. Everybody knew it was going to happen because that’s exactly the type of team the Philadelphia Flyers are. They lack any shred of confidence. They are weak, feeble-minded men who are absolutely terrified to lose hockey games, yet they do it all the time. That weakness and that lack of confidence is a direct correlation to the coach who has absolutely no idea what he is doing, he is in over his head at the NHL level and he has shown time and time again that he cannot right the ship. But you know what? The game still isn’t over yet. There’s still a chance to grab 2 points out of this game in overtime and considering Calgary is in the West, it really doesn’t hurt the Flyers to give them the point for sending the game to overtime. So let’s check in to see how overtime went….

Of course it is South Jersey native Johnny Gaudreau to stick the final dagger in the Flyers with this game winner just 35 seconds into the overtime period. That’s 3 goals for the Flames in under 2 minutes to come back from a 5-3 deficit to win the game 6-5. As Gaz would say for the Flyers, it was a total breakdown. But the most important thing to notice here is that Dave Hakstol continues to be the dumbest son of a bitch in the city of Philadelphia. Because how fucking many times does this dumbass need to start an overtime period without Voracek-Giroux-Ghost before this piece of shit realizes it’s not working. That’s twice now in the past few games that the Konecny-Couturier-Provorov group went out there to start the overtime period and they lost within the first minute. But for some reason, Dave Hakstol thinks he’s smarter than everybody else and thinks that these are the guys who are going to get him the win. HE IS FUCKING OUT OF HIS GODDAMN MIND AND HE IS RUINING THIS ORGANIZATION BUT FOR SOME REASON HE IS STILL EMPLOYED DESPITE BEING AN INCOMPETENT DOLT.

I don’t know how many times I need to say this but from top to bottom, the Philadelphia Flyers are mentally broken. And that starts and ends with the coach. He is not a leader of men. He does not instill and inspire confidence into this group. And it is clinically insane that the Flyers have not fired him yet. Now I understand that Chuck Fletcher wanted to give Dave Hakstol a fair chance here to save his job with a new GM in town. But if Fletcher doesn’t fire Hakstol after that bullshit performance at the end of last night, well then there is no hope moving forward. Because clearly he either lacks the stones or lacks the brains to realize that it’s not working with Hakstol and to cut ties as soon as possible so that he can stop plaguing the mentality of this team. Weak. Feeble. Small. Insecure. That is the brand of hockey that the Philadelphia Flyers play and it’s all because of Dave Hakstol. The team deserves a ton of blame as well and taking 4 penalties in the 3rd period while trying to protect a lead is unforgivable. The Flyers might just be the dumbest hockey team I’ve ever watched in my entire life. But it starts at the top, and Hakstol needs to go. And if he doesn’t, well then there is zero reason to ever have faith in the Flyers again.

P.S. – Say what you want about the Flyers but at least they keep inventing new ways to lose. One day they’ll get curb stomped by Winnipeg 7-1. The next game they’ll score 4 goals of their own on 5 shots and have a 2nd period that looks like this.

The Flyers have to be the first team in NHL history to score 3 goals in under 2 minutes but then give up 3 goals in under 2 minutes to end up losing the same game.
