Mark Emmert Says He's Not Roger Goodell And Follows It Up With A Bunch Of Hot Air Regarding The FBI Investigation

So Mark Emmert spoke today and boy did he have some remarks. First off the Goodell comparison is just hilarious. That’s one thing I’ll give him credit for. He’s not Goodell. The NCAA isn’t a dictatorship similar to how Goodell is with the NFL. But, let’s get to the main stuff here.

The FBI investigation.

A couple of bizarre remarks by Emmert really have me confused. Most notably the fact that Emmert says the NCAA investigations about the behavior have already been launched but follows it up with at the end of the day it’s up to the school? How does that make sense? It’s also quite contradictory. So if investigations come up with other things but Kansas punishes Silvio De Sousa, is that enough at the end of the day?

Can we also stop with the holier than thou talk about being ‘very concerned’ about payment for players? There’s a million things to be concerned about more than paying players. Again, who does that hurt? It’s not hurting the NCAA. It’s not hurting the players. It’s not hurting the programs. People still tune in. People still are going to go to games. People are still going to skip work to watch the NCAA Tournament.

Finally, the fact that no one in college athletics wanted to address amateurism is the biggest problem with this all. Why? Well, because that’s the biggest problem with this. Amateurism needs to be addressed. It’s not the same now as it was in the 1950s. The fact that we can’t see that and refuse to address it is a problem. So instead of addressing the biggest issue we yelled at the NBA for their rules and pointed the finger elsewhere. That’s where Emmert and the NCAA will always be wrong.
