Fuck The Website Slate For Taking Shots At Sully, President Bush's Service Dog

The worst “well actually” I’ve seen a while. Uhhhh hey slate, we know they weren’t lifelong companions, you dummies. No dog lives to be 95 human years old. Doesn’t happen. It should happen, though. Science should start working on ways to keep dogs alive for 100 years or longer. My dog Gus is the best puppy in the world. He deserves to live until he’s at least 200. I mean, look at this guy. LET HIM LIVE DAMMIT!

Anyway, it’s foolish to say that you cant form a meaningful relationship with dogs in 6 months. Hell, I got engaged to my wife after only 4 months of dating. Sure, she was giving me some cheeks and Sully wasnt doing that but love is love. If you doubt that Sully and HW loved each other, that’s a level of cynical that I never wanna be.

And for that reason and that reason alone, fuck Slate. That’s the new anthem. It’s the anthem that the EIC is screaming too.

Employee! EMPLOYEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Sorry for your loss, Sully. You were a good boy to 41 and were one of the lucky ones who got to spend his last 6 months with him. He probably needed you in those last 6 months more than ever. He didnt have his beloved Barbs, so you filled the void. Good boy, Sully. Good boy.

The story has extra layers of fuck Slate because it was President George HW Bush that signed the Americans With Disabilities Act into law in 1990. In 1999, Bush said of the ADA which supports people with service dogs,

It was the fair and right thing to do,” former President George H. W. Bush said in an interview in 1999 when asked why he supported the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). I think there are a lot of people who, if given access to the workplace, for example, can achieve things,” Bush continued. “But if they are denied that, they won’t have a shot at the American dream.”

Also, it’s fucking dope that Sully wore a patch with a Distinguished Flying Cross on it. What a stunt by HW. Yes, he was the President of the United States but at one time he was a warfighter. Here’s the citation for the Distinguished Flying Cross.

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the

DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS
TO
LIEUTENANT, JUNIOR GRADE, GEORGE HERBERT WALKER BUSH
UNITED STATES NAVAL RESERVE

for service as set forth in the following
CITATION: “For heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as Pilot of a Torpedo Plane in Torpedo Squadron FIFTY ONE, attached to the U.S.S. San Jacinto, in action against enemy Japanese forces in the vicinity of the Bonin Islands, on September 2, 1944. Leading one section of a four-plane division in a strike against a radio station, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bush pressed home an attack in the face of intense antiaircraft fire. Although his plane was hit and set afire at the beginning of his dive, he continued his plunge toward the target and succeeded in scoring damaging bomb hits before bailing out of the craft. His courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Reserve.”

For the President,

Secretary of the Navy

Bad ass. Fuck Slate.
