A Guy Thought He Had A Beer Belly But Turns Out It Was A 77-Pound Tumor

WaPo- It seemed that each pound was going straight to his gut. Hector Hernandez said he has always been “a big guy,” so he did not notice a problem until a couple years ago when his arms and legs seemed to be getting smaller, while his stomach was getting bigger. The 47-year-old from Downey, Calif., said that he also started struggling with heartburn and constipation and noticed that, at times, he had a hard time catching his breath. At 300 pounds, he said, strangers had started to stare, and friends were cracking jokes about his “beer belly,” even though he said he rarely drank the beverage.

“I just thought I was fat,” Hernandez said in a phone interview on Tuesday with The Washington Post. But Hernandez said his stomach kept feeling “heavy” and “hard” to the touch, so he got a second opinion. Ultimately, he said, he was diagnosed with a retroperitoneal liposarcoma, a rare but cancerous tumor that forms in fat cells, according to the Mayo Clinic. Doctors don’t know when the tumor started growing. Or why. But it weighed 77 pounds, according to his surgeon. Hernandez said he did not know how to feel about the tumor or the surgery needed to remove it.

What a fantastic way to lose weight. I’m not saying that having a 77-pound cancerous tumor removed is a better way to lose weight than eating healthy and exercising but I’m not not saying that. It’s sure as hell a lot less work I can tell you that. Think about it. This guy weighed 300 pounds on a Monday and then weighed 223 on Tuesday like magic. I’ve lost a considerable amount of weight but it’s taken me 11 months and countless hours in the gym. Again, I’m not saying I wish I had a 77-pound cancerous tumor in my abdomen but I am saying it’s an easier way to shed pounds. And look at the guy! He looks great! He looks like a million bucks. What a lucky guy he is.

By the way, do you want a way to completely kill the mood at your next gathering? Well this is it. When people start making fun of your beer belly, tell them there’s a chance it’s not a beer belly and instead might be a cancerous tumor. They’ll stop making fun of you, people will feel uncomfortable, some people might leave but you will have won. I love how the dude was like, “Yeah people kept making fun of me for having a beer belly even thought I don’t really drink beer but I just rolled with it.” That should’ve been the first red flag but whatever. Glad this guy is healthy.

PS- Black shirt and khakis is such a solid look
