A Documentary About Bob Probert's Life Is Coming

Bob Probert was arguably one of the most interesting men to ever play in the NHL. A life that saw countless late nights filled with cocaine and alcohol, a life that saw countless bare knuckle punches to the face and a life that will be coming to the big screens in the next month.

Well, I doubt the big screens. But a documentary about former Red Wing’s star Bob Probert’s life is coming. The documentary is called “Tough Guy: The Bob Probert Story” and will be released to the public on December 14th.

Probert was the 4th round selection in the 1983 draft, the same year Steve Yzerman was selected with the Red Wings. Probert was one of the league’s top enforcers in just his rookie year, putting up almost 400 penalty minutes and over 60 points.

Everything changed for Probert in 1989 when he was arrested at the Canadian border with 14 grams of Cocaine. Things reaaaaallly hit the fan when Probert was able to sneak some of his blow past the cops and was caught on security cameras doing a couple lines in his jail cell. Guy gave zero fucks.

Probert is also a victim of CTE and with where the NHL and NHLPA stand with their concussion settlement I think right now this is a very prevalent topic. How many guys out there are suffering mentally like Probert is? My guess is a lot.

We are talking about a guy who was in and out rehab 10 times, would pull all nighters on a coke binge then play in games the next day, a guy who would microwave his own piss to throw off the NHL during his drugs tests and we are also talking about a guy who tried to smuggle 14 grams of blow across the US/Canadian border. This is the definition of entertainment.

So if you have plans to hang out with me on December 14th….cancel them. Because there is ZERO chance I am missing this.
