The Denver Nuggets Are Adding WNBA Legend Sue Bird To Their Front Office

Phoenix Mercury v Seattle Storm - Game Two

(NBA) – The Denver Nuggets have added current WNBA Champion Sue Bird to their front office staff as Basketball Operation Associate, President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly announced today.

“We are very excited to have Sue join our organization,” said Connelly. “Her resume certainly speaks for itself and as a still active player she will offer an extremely unique perspective.”

Bird recently wrapped up her 16th season in the WNBA which saw her earn her 11th All-Star bid and third WNBA Championship, all with the Seattle Storm. The New York native attended the University of Connecticut where she won two National Championships before being selected first overall by Seattle in the 2002 WNBA Draft. Bird was named to the WNBA All-Decade team in 2006, has been All-WNBA First Team five times and All-WNBA Second Team three times and currently ranks first in the WNBA in career games (508), first in career minutes played (16,173), first in assists (2,831), third in points (6,154), third in made three-pointers (855) and fifth in steals (652).

“I’m really excited to join the Denver Nuggets organization. I’m thankful for the opportunity and look forward to learning from some of the best,” said Bird.

Pretty cool news out of Denver today as they are adding WNBA legend Sue Bird to their front office. Ever since her UConn days I’ve always loved Sue Bird, mostly because she’s a cold blooded killer on the basketball court. All the hardos of the comment section can save it, if you don’t enjoy watching Sue Bird play basketball you’re simply an asshole. The girl can fucking play.

This addition is just the latest example of WNBA stars making their way into the NBA. We have Becky Hammond in SA who already is interviewing for head coaching jobs, Tamika Catchings is on her way to one day perhaps becoming an NBA GM as she’s spent the last few years in the Pacers organization as the Director of Player Programs and Franchise Development, and Kristi Toliver is currently on the Wizards coaching staff while still being an active player which is pretty cool.

This just goes to show the NBA is realizing it doesn’t really matter if you’re a man or woman, if you are smart and know the game of basketball there’s a spot for you in the league. I don’t know how anyone could be against that. Sue Bird is one of the greatest female players of all time, so something tells me she’ll be able to help this team moving forward. You have teams like the Mavs going outside the box and hiring professional gamblers and data experts, why not tap into someone who has played a lottttttt of basketball at an extremely high level. Seems like a no brainer to me and is just another example of the NBA once again showing they are the most progressive pro sports league on the planet.
