The Caps Backup Goaltender Tonight Is Beer League Goalie Gavin McHale....Wait, Who?

This happens a few times a year across the league. A goaltender will get hurt in warmups and teams need to sign an emergency tendy for the night from a local club or team. You might remember last year when 36 year old accountant Scott Foster was forced to play a period vs the Jets where he made 7 stops

Well tonight the Caps just lost Braden Holtby unexpectedly, forcing them to sign the most Canadian person ever, the goaltending coach for the women’s hockey team at the University of Manitoba.

This is what we know about him, it’s either this guy:

Or this guy:

And to be honest, I trust both.

From the beer league to the NHL, it’s so awesome. The emergency backup is such a unique to the NHL thing where someone without any NHL, or professional hockey experience randomly gets to suit up and perhaps even play on an hour’s notice. Maybe if the Caps go up 5-0 McHale can see some ice time or something.
