Korean Zombie Says He's Embarrassed About Last Night's Knockout Loss In The Saddest Statement Of All Time

UFC Fight Night: Korean Zombie v Rodriguez

Following last night’s no-look elbow knockout loss, considered by many to be an “instant classic” finish in the history of the UFC – some going as far as calling it the greatest knockout in professional mixed martial arts history – The Korean Zombie has spoken.

In a statement posted to his Facebook page – the saddest statement in the history of statements – Chan Sung Jung describes coming up on the losing end of the bout with Yair Rodriguez as “embarrassing”, just after congratulating his haters (of which there are NOT many!):

“I have no excuse. To everyone who has helped me, I’m truly sorry… thank you… to everyone who hates me, congratulations. I am not in a good enough condition to get on a plane so I will spend a few days in the hospital before going back to Korea. I am embarrassed, but I will see you when I get home.”

Now, look – I’m not going to make an ignorant comment like, “HOW COULD YOU EVER BE EMBARRASSED OVER THAT PERFORMANCE?!”, because I could see how I would be embarrassed if I were in Zombie’s position, right? Like, when you consider he had that fight won, up 3-1 on two scorecards going into the fifth and final round, even going into the final ten seconds of the fight, was in the clear…and then he gave in to Yair Rodriguez’s eighty-sixth request to high-five/hug in the middle of the octagon which led to his eventual demise…I get it! Sorta embarrassing lapse of judgement there, even if he WASN’T fully aware of what was going on – which I don’t really think he was. It seemed to me when watching the fight back (which I’d urge you all to do, because holy smokes this one was great) that every time Rodriguez would throw his arms up in the air, Zombie would look at the clock, confused. I assume Yair picked up on this, and used it strategically throughout the fight to catch his breath, and hey, I’m not knockin’ for it! Do what you gotta do to win! But with that taken into consideration, I could totally see how Zombie felt like he got a rug pulled out from under him last night, making him feel embarrassed…still, he really shouldn’t.

What he went out there and did last night – returning to the octagon for the first time in nearly two years, when he had been on mandatory South Korean military leave for four years before that, taking on one of the UFC’s top prospects (which was a short-notice matchup) at such a high altitude, and putting on the fight of the year against Yair – I mean, a true fucking war between two gladiators…that couldn’t have possibly been more admirable. Yes, he got caught with the most insane elbow ever thrown in the octagon and it put him out like a light, a highlight reel finish that’ll be featured in video packages for generations to come, but even in the fight itself, it seemed to me he was clearly the more skilled fighter, so unless the KO leads to his chin never being the same ever again (which it won’t, he’s the Zombie for a reason), there ain’t much that ain’t lookin’ up for Jung! Tough to say after the conclusion of that fight, I know, but I really do believe he should be moving up in the rankings with Yair Rodriguez now, and receiving a top ten ranked opponent in his next octagon outing.

This fight will be admired by fans till the end of time, and Zombie will be back, and better than ever, without a doubt.

So I know it’s tough, but head up, Zombie! Ain’t nobody upset with you! Don’t be embarrassed!
