Diego Luna Set To Reprise His Role As Cassian Andor From 'Rogue One' In New Live-Action Star Wars Television Show

StarWars- Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced today that Lucasfilm is in development on a second Star Wars live-action series for Disney+, the Company’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service. The series, which will go into production next year, follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor. “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. A release date for the series has not yet been announced. Stay tuned to StarWars.com for the latest updates.

I’m playing catch-up on some of yesterday’s biggest stories today, because while this shit was breakin’, I was writin’ ten billion words on the history of the UFC’s flyweight division, but luckily with this one, my excitement/intrigue hasn’t died down in the slightest.

Diego Luna is now set to reprise his role as rebel spy Cassian Andor from ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ in the form of a live-action television show on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, ‘Disney+’. Obviously, given the events of that film, this’ll have to be a prequel, but I’ve gotta say: this truly is one of those things I had no idea I wanted until it was on the table. I enjoyed ‘Rogue One’ tremendously, just like everybody else, but I wasn’t really CLAMORING for more Cassian Andor when credits rolled. K-2? Maybe! But Cassian was a character I sorta felt like we got everything out of that we were going to, you know?

Now, after seeing this news and having the night to sleep on it, I think it’s a fantastic call, and one of the best picks they could’ve made. We, as Star Wars fans, are now going to receive the opportunity to watch the early stages of the Rebellion form through the eyes of a sorta rogue intelligence offer who shows major shades-of-gray and isn’t afraid to off his friends if it means the best for him and the overall cause. We’re going to likely see the criminal underbelly of a lot of places we’ve been wanting to see for years, whether they be prequel, original, OR sequel environments (prob just prequel/original though). And we’re likely going to see a lot more of one of my favorite characters in all of Star Wars…

I think I’m more excited to see how this duo met on the Disney+ show than I was to see how Han and Chewie met in ‘Solo’! There’s no trepidation here, no nostalgic toes to step on! Well, at least I certainly hope there isn’t. I don’t know man, I’m just stoked! Seems like Diego Luna is as well!

This untitled series now joins Jon Favreau’s “The Mandalorian” (taking place post-Return of the Jedi) as the second live-action Star Wars show to come to the not-yet-available streaming service. Can’t wait for either!
