I Do Not Like These Quotes Coming From The Warriors GM Bob Myers One Bit

(Sporting News) – The Warriors aren’t ruling out re-signing DeMarcus Cousins next summer.

General manager Bob Myers told “Warriors Pregame Live” that Golden State’s “options are open” when it comes to the four-time All-Star.

“If you would’ve asked me a year ago before this if he was gonna be an option for us, I’d say, ‘No way, that’s crazy!’ But he came. He came for a lot less than [what] his market value was,” Myers said Friday, via NBC Sports.

“These type of predictions — good or bad — are pretty fruitless because you just don’t know. You don’t know what’s going to be going on on July 1, 2019. You don’t know if it’s going to be better than you think … but it’s not going to be what you think. So, with a guy like DeMarcus, who knows? If he wants to come back, let’s bring him back.”

Myers went against coach Steve Kerr’s comments earlier this week that the Warriors do not expect Cousins to stay on the team’s roster next season, implying it likely would be a one-and-done situation.

OK no. What the hell is this? I thought we were all in agreement that his Boogie experiment was a one year thing. That coming off his achilles injury we accepted that he was going to take a well below market deal and join the Warriors to win a ring and hopefully bolster his potential market for the summer. All of us non Warriors fans dealt with that reality because we were told that there’s no way he could be on this team after this year. Considering the fact that everyone assumes the Warriors were going to win the title anyway, we got over it. A quick look at their cap situation made it pretty clear that since they did not own Boogie’s Bird Rights that there was no possible way to keep this team intact after this year.

Right? RIGHT?!?!!

Well now I don’t know what to believe, but I know I don’t like it. The one thing I do know is the Warriors front office are a collection of basketball wizards who seem to always figure out a way to position this team’s finances in a way where they can do shit like this. When Steve Kerr came out and said this

“We made no bones about it when we signed him,” Kerr said Thursday. “It’s a one-year deal. We’re not going to have money to sign him next year. He knows that. So we’d like him to help us win a championship. And we’d like to help him get a great contract next year, somewhere else.”

It seemed like even he knew the deal here. You get one year and that’s it. Really half a year to be honest. But now that Bob Meyers is throwing these “ya never know what can happen!” quotes out there, you have to know he’s not doing that for no reason. He knows something. Maybe he knows about the potential to move someone like Draymond, or maybe he knows the Klay really is going to take a big time discount in order to keep Boogie on this team. Maybe Boogie’s people have told them if they can get to number X this summer he’ll stay, even if there are other offers out there. At this point everything is on the table and frankly I think it stinks to the high heavens. If you’re sirens didn’t go off with that last sentence of his quote, then you aren’t paying attention.

I know it’s only November, but maybe we should already start preparing for a world where Boogie is on this team for multiple years, and goes from “can’t play because he’s hurt” Boogie to “top 5 big man in the league” Boogie and this fucking Warriors dynasty never ends.
