Right On Cue, LaVar Ball Says He Could Coach The Lakers To A Title
It was only a matter of time. You just knew that the second the Lakers had just a bit of dysfunction that LaVar would not be able to bite his tongue. Surprisingly since LeBron’s arrival we hadn’t really heard much from him, but obviously with news coming out the Magic is blaming Luke Walton for all their problems, you knew what was coming next. In an interview with Sky Sports News ahead of the Big Baller Brand USA vs London Lions game, LaVar weighed in on the current situation in LA. Here’ are my favorite quotes
“My prediction for this season is the Championship. If they need help to shoot I’ll coach them. I can coach them with my eyes closed”
It started off a little ragged,” he said. “That’s because they don’t understand if you have a guy that’s your second pick and you have the best player in the world, then don’t take him out of the game, leave him in the game and rotate the three other guys around him – that’s how you get victories if you want to win. But if you want to try and figure out things, try different combinations and taking guys in and out, then no. I’m going to go with Lonzo and LeBron. Those two guys are going to stay in the game until we finish winning, and if we’re winning by a lot then everybody else gets to play.
“Lonzo is a very special player. He makes everybody around him better so when you play him in a game don’t put him in the corner or put him in with the wrong people because he can’t make them better.”
No way, you’re telling me LaVar Ball believes that Lonzo is the solution to all their problems? Color me shocked! This isn’t to say Lonzo isn’t having a good season, but playing him more is not going to solve all of their issues. Their roster is the problem and the fact that they refuse to play defense I would say is a pretty big factor. It also hasn’t helped that the Lakers have had to deal with suspensions and all that. To think that doesn’t impact their record would be stupid. But honestly this is what I need. I need LaVar to get back to being the loudmouth parent that says outrageous stuff like this. The crazy part is he believes all of it. He truly thinks he could coach this team with his eyes closed. Frankly I’m not so sure we can call him a liar because we’ve seen NBA coaches who have no idea what they’re doing be successful. Look at what happened with Ty Lue.
It just makes me legit laugh at my desk hearing him say this Lakers team can beat the Warriors. On what fucking planet? LaVar is like all of Lakers Twitter that screamed about how this team was a top 4 team in the West after they got LeBron. Is everyone watching a different team or something? All the problems they had last year still exist, you get LeBron trying on defense maybe 25% of the time. They can’t shoot. Perhaps their young talent is a tad overrated at this point in their careers. It’s a tough reality to swallow but it’s the truth.
The selfish part of me needs the Lakers to go on a 5 game losing streak. I need LaVar back to going on First Take and saying outrageous shit. I need him taking shots at Magic for not knowing how to build a team. He couldn’t hold out for more than 8 games before he started talking about the coach, which was inevitable, so I give it 10 more games before he says something like he could build a winner in LA better than Jerry Buss. Again the crazy part is he 100% believes it.
