People- Good news, Jeopardy fans — Alex Trebek isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Sony Pictures Television has renewed its deal with the longtime game show host through the 2021-22 season. Trebek, 78, had previously said he was considering retiring from the program that made him a household name, admitting the odds of him staying after 2020 were “50-50 and a little less.” He has hosted Jeopardy since 1984.

Lets go to Burbank and watch Alex address the live studio audience:

FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS! Trebek, you old dog you! Alex gave us all a scare after having it leak out that he was thinking about retirement mere months after he had brain surgery. He named potential replacements, talked about how he would be at peace with it all being over, and just looked like a guy ready to move on from roasting nerds and having all the answers. Nope, it it turns out Trebek was just making the execs at ABC sweat about losing their franchise host while posturing to get a new contract because knew that Jeopardy ceases to exist without him. Well it seems the suits caved in and gave Trebek the payday he deserves, which means at least a few more years for the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be behind a podium. You know you are a good gameshow host when you get picked up by fucking Netflix.

If you thought Trebek was cocky beforehand, just wait until he has that post-extension + Netflix royalties glow to him. No contestant will be safe from snarky remarks. Every other category may have a rap lyric in it. And the heavy foreign accents will be going up tenfold now that Trebek locked up the bag.

I imagine Johnny got to wet the beak as well in this new deal, since you wouldn’t bring back MJ without his Pippen. Hearing “Al-ex Tre-bek” announced in any other voice would be downright criminal.

Now lets move to the news dump section of the article:

Sony TV also renewed its contract with Wheel of Fortune duo Pat Sajak, 72, and Vanna White, 61, through 2022.

Good for Vanna I guess, who is still crushing life at 61. And I suppose I am happy that Pat Sajak can continue to get paid well to ride Trebek’s and Vanna’s coattails all the way to the bank. Make your money any way you can, even if it’s sucking off the proverbial teet of the Gameshow GOAT.
