Brilliant American Man Escapes Student Loan Debt With The Help Of Indian Elephants and Chickens

Chad Haag considered living in a cave to escape his student debt. He had a friend doing it. But after some plotting, he settled on what he considered a less risky plan. This year, he relocated to a jungle in India. “I’ve put America behind me,” Haag, 29, said.

He now lives in a concrete house in the village of Uchakkada for $50 a month. His backyard is filled with coconut trees and chickens. “I saw four elephants just yesterday,” he said, adding that he hopes to never set foot in a Walmart again.

His debt is currently on its way to default. But more than 9,000 miles away from Colorado, Haag said, his student loans don’t feel real anymore.

“It’s kind of like, if a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, does it really exist?” he said.

Honestly, moving to Uchakkada seems like the deal of a lifetime. I once rode an Elephant in Jacksonville, Florida. It cost me like 40 dollars for 2 minutes. For 50 dollars a month and some chickens, you can have the chance of riding an elephant every single day. Does living in Uchakkada have its downfalls? Sure.

For example, Amazon Prime isn’t giving you 2 days free shipping there and the internet speeds are probably shit but you dont have creditors knocking down your door either.

When I living in Japan, I forgot to pay my Hollister credit card. I went 4 years without paying that bad boy off. I always thought it was cool that no one called me in Japan about it. If I wanted to get something on credit there, no biggie. It’s like they didn’t even know Hollister was a thing.

Then I moved back to America and had to pay like 18 percent interest on a new truck. Not ideal but I was young and dumb so I did it. Now I have an 810 credit score. Pretty sick but I also don’t have elephants in my yard so I’m still considering Uchakkada because I love animals.
