Let's Talk About What It Feels Like To Be Wounded At War

The war in Afghanistan and Iraq has been happening for 17 years now. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of troops have left their homes and placed their boots firmly on the ground of a foreign land that we were taught aimed to harm us. We left our mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, sons, and daughters behind to protect the interests of the United States and to hopefully protect the innocent civilians on the ground in a wartorn country.

I had the chance to interview Green Beret Kevin Flike. Like me, he was shot serving our country during the war on global terrorism. The honesty that he shares while walking us through his heroic actions in great detail is emotional. The bravery of the American veteran can be overwhelming, and this story serves as an example of that.

My story is much different than his. My medics told me while kissing me on the cheek that I would eventually be fine. I might be fine without the use of an arm or that my arm could be missing altogether, but, nevertheless, I would be fine.

Kevin’s story is different. While he traveled in a helicopter bound for life-changing surgery, he was told tacitly that he would be dead. His medical escorts didn’t believe that he would be alive to share his story. He didn’t believe that he would be alive to share children with his wife. Needless to say, I’m glad that he is. Kevin Flike is an American patriot in the purest sense of the word. His story deserves to be seen and heard. Even as his story is told to the masses, his desire to help others is clear. All proceeds from his story will go to help the families of Green Berets. If you purchase his documentary and the amazing story therewithin to include helmet cam from the actual incident, the money earned will go to the Green Beret Foundation. If you’d like to make a donation there, here’s the link. Either way, listen to Kevin’s story and what I believe to be one of the greatest episodes of Zero Blog Thirty we’ve ever done. It’s not entirely serious either. We have some dick jokes in there as well. That’s a promise.
