Oh my god, what a classic Joe West moment. He doesn't like how much time Raul Mondesi is taking his sweet old time in the on deck circle, so what does Mr. West do? Mr. West tells the pitcher to bring it on, gets down in his stance behind Benito Santiago and calls the pitch a strike. It was about 5 inches too low and way outside. Not even close to a strike, but Petty West calls it one. Guy was 10 feet away from the box when the pitch was called a strike
I actually don't hate this move, just because of who it is. I could see West or Angel Hernandez pulling this move in a game next season for sure. The umpires want it known that they are the ones that the people want to see, so if Raul is taking his sweet time, Joe will do what he wants. He has dinner plans, and there isn't a chance in hell that Raul Mondesi is delaying that dinner.
What a move, what an absolute move by Joe West. Love it.
