RIP To "Homer", The Marlins Disgusting Sculpture In Center Field

Big news coming out of Miami, the disgusting eyesore in center field known as the Marlins Home-Run Sculpture will be removed. Congrats to Derek Jeter for finally doing something right as the owner of the Marlins. The 70 foot tall sculpture is going to be moved outside of the stadium where it will still go off when the Marlins hit a home run, as well as every Miami win, and everyday at 3:05 PM. I'm not sure if there is a timetable to get this thing moved, but if I'm in charge of getting rid of it, I'm on the phone right now with a company getting that thing taken down. This is finally something Jeter related that I can get on board with, he finally did something productive. Jeter was really trying to separate this ownership from the Jeffrey Loria ownership, and this is a good step towards that.
I still will never understand how or why they allowed that thing to go up. You have an absolutely awesome, breathtaking stadium. State of the art with a retractable roof, club in left field, fish tank behind home plate, and then you throw that eyesore out there? To be a fly on the wall when that got proposed, and then OK'd by the ownership, just an unreal move by them to put it up. Apparently it has a name too? The thing is named "Homer"? Get outta here.
There is no way that thing belongs in a Major League ballpark, it reminds me of something you would see in the minors, or a Harlem Globetrotters game. I'm not sure why they even want it outside the park, send it to the damn moon. In place of the sculpture the Marlins are adding a multi-story standing room space for fans. That is a good replacement for the sculpture, something that brings some extra cash, and actually belongs in a ballpark. It will be like the center field bar at Camden Yards, or the space above the batters eye in Yankee Stadium, it for sure will be an awesome place to watch the game with the other 4,000 Marlins fans.
The person who created "Homer" is an artist named Red Grooms, who designed it with a $2.5 million contract with Miami-Dade County. He says he designed it specifically for the center field area too, but too bad Grooms, that thing stinks on ice. He is obviously against the sculpture being removed, so that caused problems with the removal of it. Apparently an artist can "disavow" a work if the sculpture is moved, and Groom has pleaded with county officials to not allow his piece to be moved. To counter that argument, the Marlins offered to pay $2.5 Million to the county to have Groom's name taken off of the statue which would make the piece of art worthless if it went on the market. I don't understand any of this and it's all so weird.
RIP to "Homer" arguably the worst thing that has ever been put inside of any ballpark in history. Good job, Jeets, proud of you for this one.
