Rookie Extensions Are Starting To Come In And There Are Some Shockers

Cleveland Cavaliers v Indiana Pacers - Game Four

We’re almost at the part of the day where the deadline has passed for rookie extensions (6pm), and we’re starting to get some reports of some of the agreements that were reached. As a reminder, heading into today only Devin Booker, KAT, and Justise Winslow had reached an agreement, and we knew Terry Rozier rejected his $12M offer. With that said, here’s what’s come in

Look Larry Nance Jr is a fine player. A young athletic big who can jump to the moon and will give you a highlight dunk on the regular. He also can’t really do much else, maybe a little rim protection I suppose so I guess there’s a little hometown cooking here because over $10M a year for what he gives you isn’t exactly cheap. Not a gross overpayment because let’s be honest who is going to want to go to CLE anytime soon, but definitely more than he probably gets in RFA which is why I bet he took this deal.

Now we’re cooking. Myles Turner cashing in big time to stay in IND for the foreseeable future. In my opinion, even though his numbers don’t blow you away like some of the other young bigs in the East like Embiid, I love Turner’s game. He’s really taken a step forward with his outside shot, and he’s so young I feel like $20M a year may end up being a steal if he projects how I bet IND thinks he will. The Pacers have a nice thing going right now with their young talent, so locking up Turner is important with the East being so wide open. Also, he clearly followed Oladipo’s lead and worked on his body as he enters the season in great shape.

So far this is all that I’ve seen come through Twitter, so we still don’t know about guys like D’Angelo Russell, Porzingis, Trey Lyles, Frank Kaminsky etc. I would imagine if they reached extensions we would have heard about it by now, and I’ll update once more info comes out. But I’ll ask you, what do you think of both of those deals? Overpayments? Good value? Makes no difference? I’d say both were fair for where each team is, but now Myles Turner has to basically have a breakout year.
