The Yankees Believe Luis Severino Was Tipping His Pitches In Game 3 - Was Pedro Martinez a Sleeper Cell After All?

Amidst the hullabaloo about whether Yankees ace Luis Severino gave himself enough time to warm up, or whether he was left on the mound too long, Yankees people believe Severino had another problem: that he was tipping his pitches.

“The Red Sox had his pitches,’ one Yankees person says, flat out.

Red Sox broadcaster Lou Merloni pointed out that he noticed there was a tipping issue, and it appeared Red Sox hitters were able to lay off Severino’s biting slider consistently. At one point, NESN noted that Jackie Bradley Jr. mouthed “fastball” on the bench to Mookie Betts on an 0-and-2 pitch to Brock Holt.

By the end, Severino appeared to go away from his slider entirely, so he may have suspected as much. Severino lasted only four batters (and no outs) into the fourth, and many suggested he shouldn’t have been out there even that long, in the 16-1 Yankees defeat. Yankees people say they heard the “chatter” from Red Sox people about pitch tipping, and they all seem to believe there was something to it.

For a few years now Luis Severino has credited his transformation into an ace to Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez. You obviously will read that sentence and question the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry instantly. One of the best pitchers of all time, and the best Red Sox pitcher ever, helping out a rising star for the Evil Empire. Well, what if I told you it was a giant long-con? What if I told you this was like Doctor Strange’s crazy plan to give Thanos the time stone in Infinity Wars because that was the only way to save the universe? That’s what I think Pedro did. He was a sleeper cell to bring down the Evil Empire and their prized arm. Well played.

The Red Sox knew exactly when a slider was from Sevy coming on Monday night. They laid off every time and forced him to abandon one of his deadliest pitches. He had to come in with his fastball while behind in counts and got killed for it. Now is this the reason the Yankees lost 16-1 in what was their worst postseason loss in franchise history? No lol. Boone brought in fat fuck Lance Lynn with the bases juiced instead of any of the strikeout flame throwers on the team. They also couldn’t touch Eovaldi. They also didn’t know what time the game started. Gary Sanchez didn’t have his nails painted for the first because he had no idea the game was at 7:40. Gardner didn’t have the right shoes on. Sevy didn’t long toss. It was all a catastrophe, but now I believe Pedro sabotaged Severino and I’m sticking by it.

New plan for 2019, no more Pedro. Let’s just fire Rothschild and get a real pitching coach who can help these guys when they’re in funks.
