The Tiger Vs Phil Match Won't Be Open To The Public And That's Super Dumb
CBS Sports- The only people on the course for the Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson $9 million match over Thanksgiving will apparently be … Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. According to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, no tickets will be sold to the big-money event. That doesn’t technically mean Woods and Mickelson will be alone as camera crews and sponsors will certainly be in attendance, but it will provide a strange backdrop for two of the best to ever play. Here’s the Review-Journal with more. Multiple sources who are familiar with the planning said a small gathering of sponsors and VIPs will be given access to Shadow Creek, which is owned by MGM Resorts International. The event is believed to be the first televised pay-per-view golf event. Broadcast rights are held by WarnerMedia. Also, no parts of the match will be played under the lights as was under speculation following Mickelson’s comments about the event being held in prime time.
Well that’s super dumb. They’re not selling tickets to the public for the Tiger vs Phil match and it’s only gonna be a small number of sponsors and VIP guests. Dumb as shit. I gotta tell ya, the hype for this event is plummeting and plummeting fast. People (myself included) obviously lost their minds when it was rumored that these two were gonna play a square off in match for a shit ton of money but it seems like people are becoming less and less interested as the days go by. One of the main issues of course is that Phil is playing like absolute dog shit right now. Tiger is fresh off a win and that’s awesome but he’s also fresh off of pooping his pants in France so people are a little down on him as well. Not great!
Combine all that with this news that they aren’t selling tickets to the pubic and you’ve got yourself plummeting interest. Lots of people are obviously still gonna buy the PPV because it’s Tiger and Phil and they move the needle regardless but not having a gallery watching is gonna be weird, right? There’s gonna be zero atmosphere. Imagine if there was a huge boxing event that was available for PPV but there weren’t any fans in the building. That just wouldn’t happen. It’s gonna be a super strange vibe in Vegas with nobody there watching but a couple sponsors. No clapping or cheering or anything is gonna be WEIRD. Not to mention the fact that they are allowing sponsors and VIPs which is the most golf thing of all time. Let the common folk watch a match between Tiger and Phil? Hell no! Let a few corporations and rich people watch the match? YEP! Golf gonna golf.
