Did Anders Lee Take A Shot At John Tavares? You Be The Judge

The new captain of the New York Islanders, Anders Lee, was asked by the NHLPA what the best quality a teammate can have is. His response? Loyalty. Now, as we all know, his former line mate John Tavares bolted for Toronto this offseason. Was Lee taking a shot a Tavares? I’d say so. But I’ll let you be the judge.

It’s going to be tough for me to sit here and rip Anders Lee for taking a jab at John Tavares. I talk about it all the time that more people need to talk about the NHL. Well, things like this get people talking about the NHL. Unfortunately, I think everyone with a brain would have done what Tavares did. But, doesn’t mean people aren’t still upset. Look at Frankie Borrelli.

The Leafs are a complete wagon, they play in his home town, and he has the opportunity to bring Toronto its first Stanley Cup since 1967. Imagine winning a cup in TO? Holy shit. You’d never pay for a thing for the rest of your life. Even the black aces would be eating free filets 50 years from now.

But if I was Anders Lee, I’d be pretty fucking pissed though too. Lee is a free agent after this season. He’ll be coming off a 4-year deal that pays him an AAV of $3.75m for a total of $15m. The first contract that he’s seen some decent money. Well, Lee is coming off a 40-goal season playing alongside Tavares last year, and 34 goal season the year before. The Islanders new captain was on track to sign a huge ticket this upcoming offseason, that’s if he puts up the numbers this season.

So wouldn’t you be pissed if someone who could help you get a lot more money in your pocket just up and leaves? I’d certainly hold a grudge. But can you blame Tavares? No.

Tough situation to be in for Lee. But once people start messing with your money, then all bets are off.
