The Ravens Aren’t Mad, They’re Actually Laughing, About Losing To Baker Mayfield And The Browns

You okay, Ravens? You seem to be a little upset that you weren’t able to beat a Browns rookie quarterback for once.

First up, we have Ravens linebacker Kenny Young, who talked to a reporter about Baker and ended up just dishing out a brutal self-own.

Reporter

Okay so let me get this straight, you are basically calling him a mediocre quarterback, saying that he stares down receivers and telegraphs his throws? If so, what do you make of these numbers…

I thought you had him all figured out, Kenny!? If you have someone figured out and he still completes roughly 60% of his passes for 342 yards and touchdown, you either didn’t actually figure him out or you just stink.

The staring down his receivers thing is also hilarious.

Baker has been great to go through his progressions and read as many of his targets on each play as possible. He may have stared down on a few of his throws, but his decisions and release are so quick it doesn’t really matter. Young (and this reporter, for some reason?) can be as confident as they want, but, even with some drops (especially on the left side of the field), Baker tore them up.

Next up, Eric Weddle made an absolutely erroneous statement about how many times they should have intercepted Baker.

Weddle

Eric Weddle, who is one of my favorite non-Browns in the league, does have a point! Here are all of the plays where the Ravens should have picked Baker off on Sunday.

Even Baker’s one interception really wasn’t his fault.

He actually went through his reads pretty well here but got burned by the lack of communication with Higgins.

Other than that, I am not totally sure what Weddle is talking about. Baker made spot-on throws all afternoon following that interception. They probably should have gotten more sacks? Baker did escape a bunch of tackles, but that is also what makes him a special talent.

Related to that last comment, Weddle’s final quote tries to discredit the magic of Baker’s final throw of the game.

That’s like looking back on something like this Odell Beckham catch…

…and saying, “yeah, he just caught it.” Baker’s play wasn’t as amazing as that, but it was still a big-time play in a pressure-filled moment.

I can’t help but think that Derrick Willies scores on that play if he doesn’t try to cut back upfield. The 6’4” target is going to have to step up this weekend, too, and I am excited to see how he meshes with Baker.

Missed tackle? Baker pushed off his offensive lineman, scrambled and threw an absolute dart on the run. Good coverage? He was open. This is just a wildly inaccurate analysis of the play.

Anyway, I am not sure what the fuck the Ravens are talking about. They seem mad and I am pretty sure they are at this point. They got beat and aren’t really sure how to take it!

There’s a new emerging king of the AFC North and the Ravens better start getting used to it!
