Jimmer Fredette Puts up 41 Points Against the Houston Rockets

Important to note that he took 40 shots and the Sharks still lost 128-86. Sooo yaaaa, this doesn’t really call for a celebratory 3 beers and Fanta. This is the problem with the Jimmer Fredette era Shanghai Sharks. The offense solely revolves around Jimmer. Our only game plan is to get Jimmer the ball and have him launch up 3s from outer space. During the regular season Jimmer routinely puts up 40+ and we still lose as he’s the only one putting up numbers. None of the other players have the confidence to sink clutch shots. Actually, that’s not entirely fair, Pony Tail sure as fuck could do it every once in a while…

but I just found out he got traded to the Sichuan Blue Whales. Womp Womp. Here’s to hoping the newest Shanghai Shark, 38-year old Luis Scola, can be another threat on offense for us this year.

So far though Scola has only made headlines for injuring the Houston Rocket’s Zhou Qi’s knee and potentially ending his NBA career.

This season, the Sharks are bringing back Li Qiuping as head coach. I’m sure zero people reading this know who he is but he was the dude who coached the Sharks coach back in 2001 when they won their first and only CBA championship. That should be a good omen but he doesn’t seem to have very high hopes for the team.

“The goal for the first season (of my contract) is a top-eight finish so as to qualify for the playoffs. To coach a team with the potential to win a championship is one choice, and to return to Shanghai is another choice. But it’s more meaningful for me to come back to Shanghai,” Li explained.

In happier news, the Sharks marketing team asked fans to submit videos explaining why they love the team using the hashtag #WelcomeToTheSharkTank for a chance to win season tickets to every home game this season. I submitted a video informing them I invented the hashtag #WelcomeToTheShark tank, and won the tickets. Expect some Pulitzer worthy CBA coverage this Winter.
