Who Would Have Guessed That Former NBA Players Would Be The Ones To Save The World?
[NBC] - Has Dennis Rodman, the former NBA star-turned pal of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, been benched for Chinese hoop legend Yao Ming?
The former Houston Rockets center, basketball Hall of Famer, and eight-time NBA all-star took center court in Pyongyang, North Korea’s capital, on Tuesday as Chinese and North Korean basketball players held a friendly match, part of a high-profile sports exchange between the two countries intended to help thaw ties that had been growing chilly over the past year.
Senior ruling party officials turned up for the game, but Kim, who was famously serenaded with the birthday song by Rodman in Pyongyang in January 2014, didn’t attend.
Oh, just after Storyboards comes out talking about Dennis Rodman and his attempt to befriend Kim Jong Un we now have Yao Ming trying to solve world peace? Barstool just taking things to the moon I guess.
But, in all seriousness, how about former NBA players consistently being part of relations with North Korea? I never would have guessed Kim Jong Un to be such a hoops fan. In fairness he is round enough to be confused with a basketball, so I guess that does make some sense.
Yao Ming has obviously done a ton in trying to help better the world. He’s serves as an Ambassador for Special Olympics and elephant conservation. He also helped rebuild schools following an earthquake in 2008. Now, he’s attempting to help relations between China and North Korea.
I’m not going to get into China and North Korea, because I don’t do politics (please don’t yell at me). But, is there a more random duo than Yao and Dennis Rodman working to help relations between their respective countries and Kim Jong Un? I can’t think of any two that would be a better pair. Now, we just need Yao and Rodman to be a tag team in WWE to really complete it all.
Basketball saves the world, what else is there to say.
