UCLA's Season Has Been A Disaster And Games Haven't Even Started Yet

So some brutal news coming out of Los Angeles today. The Bruins just suffered their third major injury in the last few weeks and this one might be the most important one.

UCLA lost Shareef O’Neal to a heart problem for the year two Friday’s ago. Then it was announced Alex Olesinski would miss at least 2-3 months due to a stress fracture. Both were important losses for sure, but the Bruins actually have depth at the post spot.

Tyger Campbell though is one of only two real point guards on the roster. He’s a 4-star recruit from Indiana who is a top-100 recruit that was originally committed to DePaul before changing his mind and going to UCLA. He was going to play a decent amount of minutes this season due to his ability to control the game. He also brought shooting to this roster and you could play him next to Jaylen Hands at times too.

So with UCLA as a projected top-20 team to start the year and expectations high with Alford needing a big year to keep the fan base off his back, it’s been a disastrous two weeks. Now, there’s still talent on the roster led by Kris Wilkes, Jaylen Hands and Moses Brown, but the depth at that guard spot just got depleted. Hopefully this is the last injury report we have to give on UCLA. College basketball is better when a historic program like UCLA is good.
