The Mavericks Are Hiring Legendary NBA Bettor/NBA Twitter Hero/High Stakes Poker Player Haralabos Voulgaris

What a move by the Mavs. If you don’t know who Haralabob is, you must be living under a rock and/or not into the NBA. Bob is a huge NBA bettor, with a very big presence on NBA Twitter. He watches every game, and isn’t shy about voicing his opinions on bad players, coaches, or GMs. He made millions upon millions of dollars (nobody knows exactly how much but in the 9 figures range) betting the NBA using algorithms and analytics, beating Vegas at it’s own game to the point where they had to change the way they made 2nd half spreads because he realized they were beatable.

Bob is also found playing massive poker games, including dabbling in the million dollar buy-in Big One For One Drop at the WSOP. I wouldn’t call him an action junkie as much as I’d call him an extremely smart person who is always looking for an edge.

And now, with NBA betting harder than ever, he has decided to join an actual NBA team’s front office to see what he can accomplish. He’s worked in a front office before, but left to continue betting on the NBA.

It makes sense for the Mavs to hire him, as he’s very sharp and has the brain and knowledge to help a team immediately. It’s awesome that teams are moving away from hiring former players who “know the game” and into hiring analytical gamblers who “know the game” in an entire different way.

What sucks is Bob was awesome on NBA Twitter and talking shit about the league. I’ll miss that, for sure. I definitely have learned a lot about a side of basketball I otherwise wouldn’t have known about from following him the last few years. The Mavs got themselves a good brain, I’m interested in seeing how he’ll like working a real job though…that gambling itch is a nasty one that needs a scratch.
