Ladies And Gentlemen, The John Tavares Era In Toronto Has Officially Begun
There was a time that John Tavares was just a kid who grew up sleeping in Toronto Maple Leafs sheets while wearing his Toronto Maple Leafs pajamas. A kid who dreamed about nothing but playing for his hometown leafs. Wearing the blue and white meant everything to him. Unfortunately, he was so nasty that he was drafted first overall in 2009 and was forced to play for the Islanders for a few years. But the moment he had a chance to finally put on that Maple Leaf sweater, he wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity.
And now tonight he made his first regular season debut for the Leafs. An emotional night for so many different reasons. A moment he’s been waiting for his entire life. And just over 38 minutes into his first game as a Leaf, John Tavares put one in the back of the net.
First off, filthy move at the top of the circles there to completely destroy Matthew Peca’s life. And secondly, you have to wonder just what was going through his mind there as he skated back to center ice for the next faceoff. I wonder if he was thinking “thank god Borelli didn’t offer me free chicken parm for life or else I could still be playing in Brooklyn right now instead of living out my lifelong dream”. Probably something along those lines.
Really just makes you appreciate how beautiful the game is.
P.S. – Fuckin’ Dubas filming the John Tavares intro during the opening ceremonies of tonight’s game. Such a Millennial move. Still should turn the phone sideways though. Portrait videos suck ass. Either that or he’s scrolling through Tinder.
