Kyrie Irving Can't Stop Talking About Staying In Boston

Live look at all the Knicks/Nets/Heat/whoever else fans

This clip is from the same Under 30 Summit that Dave was at, and look, part of me loves the fact that after being so quiet about his future in Boston, Kyrie is literally telling anyone and everyone how happy he is in Boston and why on earth would he ever want to leave. That is comforting to some degree, because at least if he leaves but never said any of these things, he could play the card where he never committed. And while this technically isn’t him saying “I am going to resign my extension the second the season is over. Nobody has to worry about a thing”, it’s about as close as we are going to get.

But at the same time, I’m still nervous about it. How do we know Ainge and Brad didn’t just sit him down and tell him to go this route while the season is going on so it’s not a distraction? They know he’s going to be asked a million times, so just talk about how awesome a situation this is and that’ll be that. Here is an example of how I expect Kyrie to answer this question from now until the summer

“Well, when you factor in all the energy and ability to expand and grow as not only a basketball player but as an individual in this universe, of course you are going to want to be in an environment which encourages positivity and togetherness. As I explore my own personal goals and dreams I look around and see a lot of promise in the potential of this group, and that there is nothing we can’t achieve together. When I think of my future I want to be in a place where I feel fulfilled but also challenged. What better place to go through that journey than Boston?”

Or something along those lines, you can take that to the bank. Maybe this is just a me problem, but I’m still going to be nervous until we see him sign the dotted line. I’ve been worried about a potential departure since the very second he arrived, so him going to these conferences and talking about how awesome Boston is isn’t going to distract me. I already know how awesome Boston is. I will just say if he goes on to eventually leave even with the team having success, after ALL he’s talked about so far that gives everyone the assumption he’s going to stay….oh boy is he going to get crushed in his first game back at the Garden and probably forever. Celtics fans are a weird breed, we’ll be deathly loyal to you as long as you return the favor, but the second you betray that trust it’s a wrap for you.

Let’s just hope we can take Kyrie at his word.

Oh and he also apologized for saying the world is flat

So I’m glad we can finally put that ridiculousness to bed and focus on the season.
