Patrick Reed Tells The NYT The Reason He Didn't Play With Jordan Spieth At The Ryder Cup Is Because Spieth Doesn't Like Him

USA Today- “Captain America’s” shield was shattered at the Ryder Cup and it may take a while for Patrick Reed to put all the pieces together again. The Patrick Reed-Justine Reed-Jordan Spieth-Jim Furyk saga took another hard turn an hour after Reed departed Le Golf National. Reed tore into his Ryder Cup teammates and slammed Furyk’s decision to break up the partnership he shared with Jordan Spieth and intimated, as did his wife over the weekend, that the breakup was on Spieth. “Captain America” continued his transformation into “Mr. Unpopularity.”

“The issue’s obviously with Jordan not wanting to play with me,” Reed told Karen Crouse of the New York Times Sunday night. “I don’t have any issue with Jordan. When it comes right down to it, I don’t care if I like the person I’m paired with or if the person likes me as long as it works and it sets up the team for success. He and I know how to make each other better. We know how to get the job done.”

So this is the big news of the day regarding the Ryder Cup. Patrick Reed told the NTY that the reason him and Jordan Spieth didn’t play together in Paris is because Spieth doesn’t like Reed. Reed and Spieth were an American wrecking crew at the 2016 Ryder Cup and everyone assumed they would be paired together. So it was shocking when the Friday pairings came out and they weren’t paired together. Reed was teamed up with Tiger Woods and Spieth was teamed up with Justin Thomas. Now we know why that was the case.

The interesting thing is that Team USA held their post-Ryder Cup press conference yesterday and Reed didn’t say anything about this. The topic got brought up, there were awkward glances between Spieth and Reed before Spieth and Jim Furyk gave very diplomatic answers as to why they weren’t paired together. Everybody had moved past it until Reed told the NYT that he thinks Spieth doesn’t like him and that’s why they weren’t paired together. Reed also took shots at captain Jim Furyk saying he shouldn’t have sat him so much. Bottom line is that Patrick Reed is fucking pissed about what happened in Paris.

I know everyone hates Patrick Reed and I know he’s an asshole but, if what he says is true, I am fully on Reed’s side here. I don’t give a shit that Spieth doesn’t like Reed. Hey Jordan, nobody likes Patrick Reed. That’s Patrick Reed’s thing but I wanna win Ryder Cups and the fact of the matter is Reed and Spieth are awesome when playing for the red, white and blue. I need Spieth to put whatever bullshit aside and play with Reed so we don’t get embarrassed like we just got embarrassed in France. Sure, Spieth had an awesome weekend anyway with his pal Justin Thomas but Reed did not have a great week. And it’s for sure cowardly that Reed told these things to the New York Times instead of bringing it up at the press conference. I’m defending the way he said these things but that doesn’t make what he’s saying any less valid.
