Rick Reilly Stunned Justin Thomas With A Question About His Dad Being A Sportswriter

What a confusing situation. At first glance, it would appear that Rick Reilly had a stroke right then and there and asked a completely random question. I was expecting a later video to come out of paramedics rolling him outta the press room on a stretcher with a Hannibal Lecter mask on. It felt like the end of the road for Rick Reilly that we all saw coming eventually.

But it gets even weirder than that. Further investigation shows that Justin Thomas’ dad IS a sportswriter this week. He’s doing a guest column for something called the Courier Journal

Sounds like Justin’s dad will be writing his thoughts as he follows along at the Ryder Cup. So the question by Rick Reilly actually wasn’t crazy at all in hindsight. It was a very fair question. I will say, he asked it in a super weird way. It felt like Rick was scolding Justin Thomas about his dad. He was trying to be funny but it couldn’t have fallen flatter. The weird thing is that Justin Thomas must not have been informed by his dad that he was writing about the Ryder Cup. That sure seems like something that would come up over dinner at some point. And why didn’t Rick Reilly explain the question when JT clearly had no idea what was going on? That would’ve cleared it all up in two seconds. He didn’t and they both just stared at each other like a couple of crazy people. Weird stuff. I’m still confused. Everybody is still confused.
