For the second time in the last couple decades, the Jets injure a starting QB, and launch a legendary career for the backup. The Baker Mayfield Era began at the Jets expense, and we’re the assholes who lose to the Browns for the first time in…say it with me now!…635 days. Free Bud Light for all those skells in Cleveland, and when that little fridge is empty you can guzzle down Jets fans tears because there will be no shortage of those tonight.
It’s a Week 3 Cuncel. You can’t do anything in a season where you break the Browns losing streak. Once you have that stank on you, it’s a wrap. And it’s not just that they lose to Cleveland. It’s that they lost to Baker. Their franchise QB vs our supposed franchise QB. And if you’re going by the eye test and swagger and moxi and composure, Baker blew Darnold out of the fucking water. Now, don’t get me wrong – the play calling was a fucking NIGHTMARE. From their insistence on goddam cutesy plays and screen passes going half the field, Darnold was put in no position to win. Bowles coached that game like a coward who looked convinced a 14-0 lead was enough. He coached not to lose and they just slowly bled out while Baker and the Browns got cocky. But bottom line we’ve been waiting for our QB and we supposedly got him and watching that performance was not even remotely inspiring. He’s a rookie, it’s week 3, he’s the youngest to ever do it. He still has PLENTY of time to put together the career we need. But right now, in this moment, this season, it ain’t there. Every week we’ve seen questionable decision making and some HORRENDOUS passes.
So it’s not just losing to the worst franchise in the history of football. It’s not giving them their first win in 2 years. It’s that this was a clear head to head match up between, Baker vs Darnold, and one guy stood up and one guy didn’t. Cuncel. Spend the rest of the season learning and building to the future because if you’re guy by that eye test and that gut feeling, it ain’t there this season.
