Listening To NHL Refs Mic'd Up Is Pretty Awesome

I came across these videos today and they are pretty awesome, I’m not going to lie. I have always been so enamored with what NHL players are saying to refs and vice versa. One minute you’ll see a ref laughing and joking with the guy the next they are in a yelling match telling each other to fuck themselves. It’s amazing.

From the refs point of view, it has to suck having to deal with some of the shit they deal with. Some of these NHL guys scream at these refs like they aren’t even humans, it’s pretty hilarious to be honest. Hockey guys are so quick with their chirps too, so the refs get it pretty good.

If I’m in the NHL, I’m taking the opposite approach. I am making best friends with every ref, asking how their family is doing, what they had for lunch, if there is anyone on my team I need to talk to or bitch at, the whole nine yards. Because there is absolutely no question that refs play favorites.

I think the dynamic between NHL refs and NHL players is different than any other league. The refs bark back a ton in the NHL, which makes the players respect them more. It’s hilarious. I always thought the refs kind of just took their shit, but holy shit the refs give it to the players just as much.

At the end of the day, refs get a ton of shit. Sometimes deservedly so, sometimes completely unwarranted, so it’s good to see that they still maintain a good relationship with the players, unlike some other leagues (nba).
