I'm Already Sold On The Bruins New Back Up Jaroslav Halak

St. Louis Blues v Boston Bruins

A few months back, I blogged that I wish more goalies were creative with their pad set up. Hockey needs some attention and goalie pads are a blank canvas, why not paint something interesting on there and get the people talking.

Well ask and you shall receive. The Boston Bruins tweeted out earlier today a picture of their new backup goalie, Jaroslav Halak, and his new pads. And they get a perfect score from the judges.

These go perfect with the Bruins. A Bruin is a big, bad ass bear. These pads represent that perfectly. The claws, the colors, everything. The weird thing about this is that this isn’t the first time Halak has done this same kind of design, which seems so tailored to the Bruins. He did it with the Blues, Islanders and Habs.

Obviously a little different, there is much more detail on his new Bruins pads. He added actual claws to the original design he displayed in St. Louis, Montreal and New York. The claws give it character, give it life.

But the point I am trying to make is that the rest of the league should be worried. The Bruins were good last year, real good. They just lacked a little swagger. These pads scream swagger.

Halak needs to bring the heat too. Former Bruins backup, Anton Khudobin recently dropped his new helmet that pays homage to Dobby from Harry Potter and it is absolutely hilarious.

Who knows if Halak will actually keep the design for the season. The Bruins are currently in China right now for NHL China, so he could just be displaying them overseas to see the reception they get. But I’m completely sold on this guy already.
