Luka Doncic Is One Of The Most Hyped Rookies Ever, But Dirk Explains Why We Should Be Hesitant

[105.3 The Fan] – “Obviously, I don’t want to put too much pressure on him,” Nowitzki said in the radio interview. “Coming over from a different country, I went through the same thing about 20 years ago. It’s tough to adjust to a lot of things: living in a different country, another culture, to a different game, different coaching, different play style. For me, that took a full year. My first year was really, really tough.

There’s no doubting that Luka Doncic is incredibly skilled and arguably one of the most hyped rookies ever. Someone who knows all about coming over to America though is Dirk, now a teammate of Luka. That’s why it’s worth listening to him talk about Doncic’s game and more importantly what he’s going to have to deal with moving over to America.

One benefit that Doncic has more than Dirk is the fact that he’s been in the spotlight for years before coming over to the NBA plus thanks to the Internet he’s been able to get a bit more into American culture before coming over to the NBA. I mean, he still is all in on Jennifer Aniston, which says he either has a MILF fetish or is stuck in the 90s. Either way, he’s not wrong.

I do think it’s worth noting what Dirk is talking about though. It’s still a transition from living on a campus essentially over in Spain before living an NBA lifestyle. He has to get used to the different game and culture, so don’t be surprised to see him struggle at times. He’s not going to be consistent all year as rarely any rookie ever is.

Dirk also gets into how Doncic has been unbelievable in the pick-and-roll. That’s not a surprise. That’s always been the best set for Doncic as he’s a playmaker with good size at 6’8″. He has great vision and over in Europe was able to get into the lane and attack with a pull up or at the rim off the screen. Expect to see him in a lot of PnRs with Jordan this year.
