Zagats Is Mad At Darren Rovell For Correctly Saying I Am The Most Influential Food Critic on the Planet and Only Old People Read Zagats
Listen I have no dog in this fight aside from the fact I’m a main participant in this spirited debate. All I know is that I respect Zagats just like I respect my elders. They are still a venerable institution who does a decent job of ranking restaurants. They are the Blockbuster of the restaurant rankings game if you will. And I 1000% agree with Chris Stang that twitter followers don’t equate to influence. That is the truest statement of all time. There is no more fraudulent group of people than the blue checkmark brigade. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t apply to me at all. My twitter followers only begin to tell the tale of how influential a human I am. In fact the only reason Chernin bought us was because of our engagement, influence and authenticity. So when Darren Rovell says I’m the most influential food critic on the planet it is not a shot at Zagats and shouldn’t be taken that way. Everything I touch I turn to gold including pizza reviews. The bottomline is you don’t become the #3 app in the entire food category overnight by accident.* It’s by building an empire brick by brick, slice by slice. PS – But in all seriousness as crazy as it may seem I really do think I may be the single most influential food blogger. There are obviously companies and websites that review food, but a single person? I can’t think of anybody except Davey Pageviews.
