Saturdays Are For Johnny Bounce Back

All eyes were on Johnny Manziel as he had his second start (since ’15, as if I needed to remind anyone) tonight vs Ottawa. It went MUCH better than last week.

That wouldn’t have taken much since the four INT loss to Hamilton couldn’t have gone worse, but still. There were some vintage A&M moments and flashes that the former Heisman winner still has worthy juice left in the tank. And he clearly has a better understanding of the playbook after another week of practices, which is a major key.

Johnny Dimes.

To quote Mrs. Tom Brady, he “can not fucking throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time.”

Johnny (basically) Touchdown.

FWIW, he missed a grand total of zero plays after that nasty hit.

Montreal lost the game on an Ottawa TD with 15 seconds left. But if #2 was looking for improvement this week, he got it. The L was nowhere near his fault. He finished the night 16-26, 168 yds passing and added 3 carries for 36 yards.

Last week was brutal, there’s no doubt. I don’t care if you are pro-Johnny, anti-Johnny or don’t give a shit about Johnny. If you’re being honest with yourself, you know there’s a reason that professional QBs aren’t traded and thrown into new systems in the middle of any season. He only had four practices with his brand new team before that awful game. And that’s not an excuse. That’s a fact.

Nothing over the top spectacular happened tonight, and it wasn’t perfect. But more importantly, nothing horrible happened tonight. At the very least, Johnny showed that last week’s disaster was a fluke.
