You're Not A True Hockey Guy Unless You're Reeling In River Monsters With Your Twig

Alright so maybe Detroit Red Wings’ enforcer Luke Witkowski didn’t exactly haul in the most massive beast the seas had to offer that day. But a catch is a catch. And Witkowski rigged up his CCM RibCor, dropped bait, reeled in that beauty and then released him back into nature because he’s not an asshole. All in all, I’d say that’s a pretty successful day out on the water with the sauciest rod known to man.

Tape job is still looking pretty clean there. Heel to toe, just the way we like it. Not exactly sure what flex he’s going with here. I’d say you probably want to stay away from intermediate flexes because anything bigger than what he caught here would snap that shit directly in half. So unless you’re casting out into a swimming pool, you can probably count 55-65 flex out. You probably don’t want to go too high on the flex either, though, because you want a little give. I’d say 95-105 flex is definitely out of the picture as well. So I think anywhere from 70-85 flex should be the sweet spot you’re looking for, as long as you don’t cut it down at all. No word on whether this was caught on the same rod or not, but you have to imagine 85 flex was necessary here.

Oh and speaking of NHL players hauling in river monsters this summer, here are a few of the boys up in Canada catching some big ass sturgeons at the Ladd Foundation’s Fishing 4 A Cause event. We’ve got Dustin Byfuglien with one right here.

And then Mat Barzal and Nick Leddy brought in this big ass giant as well.

Not a big deal.
