Patriots Sign Eric and Jessie James Decker
I’m sorry. Was I talking a little while ago? What was I saying? I believe I was complaining about the Patriots’ wide receiver depth saying right now since Julian Edelman will be out for September so it’s basically Chris Hogan and a bunch of injured guys? I didn’t even mention the rookies, who were low draft picks and hardly locks to make the team. Or Cordarelle Patterson, who was at best a depth guy/KR in Minnesota.
So yeah, at we sit here on August 2nd, it looked pretty grim. Like Tom Brady is going to be asked to put together an Iron Man suit in a cave, out of a box of scrapes. But when it’s the Patriots we’re talking about, nothing ever stays that bad for long. Belichick just casually picks up Eric Decker on a Thursday afternoon over a ham sandwich in his office like it’s nothing. Jordan Matthews gets cut, Decker comes in. This Decker:
That’s him. The one with the three 1,000+ yard seasons. And before anyone says “Sure, but anyone could have 1,000 receiving yards for those Broncos teams, get a load of the season he did it for the Jets, as the No. 2 behind Brandon Marshall. Now you’re adding him, a veteran presence with playoff experience, to a depleted receiver corps. For the low, low price of absolutely nothing. It’s just a huge score for Belichick and Nick Caserio in an area of need at a time long before roster cut downs when not a lot of quality talent is out there.
And while I’m talking about quality talent, let’s welcome to New England the latest addition to an already stacked roster of spectacular Patriots wives and girlfriends. Congratulations to Eric and Jessie James Decker. It looks like this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
