Toss Up: If A Celebrity Demands An Airline Not Serve Nuts, Should They Cater To The One Person On a 200 Person Flight?

Hmmmm. Interesting. So let’s get the facts straight: One on hand, United is not a nut-free airline. There are airlines that are nut-free, but United is not one of them. Here is the official policy from their website:

For operational reasons, we cannot remove any onboard products based on individual customer requests, and we do not offer allergen-free buffer zones on our aircraft. Since we cannot guarantee allergen-free flights, we encourage customers to review any health concerns with their physicians prior to flying.

On the other hand, Dua Lipa’s sister has a severe allergy to nuts. Dua Lipa, if you are not in the know, is famous. She has over 2 million followers on Twitter and over 15 million on Instagram. So here’s the toss up: If Dua Lipa wants to inconvenience an entire plane and withhold snacks from them because her sister didn’t read the United policy before boarding the plane, should she be allowed to? Quite a toss up. I mean, Dua Lipa does have a blue checkmark. Lots of clout. On the other hand, there are 200 other people on the plane who just want to eat a package of nuts. Sigh. This one is tough. I mean who is UNITED, a multi-billion dollar corporation, to serve nuts when Dua Lipa specifically asked them not to? Have they no shame? She’s a celebrity for Pete’s sake!

So I guess, since the flight attendant continued to serve nuts, Dua Lipa’s sister is now dead. Unfortunate. But at least Dua Lipa tweeted about it first.
