(source) Carmelo Anthony is prepared to spend the prime years of his career in New York, the Daily News has learned. A person close to Anthony told The News on Wednesday that barring a last minute change of heart Anthony will re-sign with the Knicks after “agonizing over this” for the past week.

“He will have something for everybody on Thursday,” said the friend who was with Anthony before Anthony’s scheduled workout with Kevin Durant and Kevin Love in Los Angeles on Wednesday. “He is really torn because this is the biggest decision of his career. But he wants to get it done in New York. He told me he believes in Phil.”

I was never great at math, not really a numbers guy, but walking away from almost 60 million dollars is a LARGE number. Can’t really blame Melo here, I’ll never fault a pro athlete for getting top dollar, we all would do the exact same if we were in their shoes.

Now the question becomes what next? I don’t blame Gar/Pax for this, they did the best they could with what they had. The fact that they were even in the running at such a steep discount is impressive. It’s impossible to compete with 129 million dollars. So what now? Make a full assault for Kevin Love? Go the pure depth route and add Gasol or Mirotic or Deng or a combination of those three? I don’t know the right answer, what I do know is that the Bulls will have to do something here because as currently constituted they are the exact same team they have been for the past 4 years and that’s netted zero titles.

OR this is all setting up for sign and trade and I just sold myself back on Melo. Just kidding but not really because I’m an eternal optimist.
