Nickelodeon Is Bringing "Rugrats" Back To TV And Will Also Be Filming A Live-Action Movie
Variety- Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures announced today a relaunch of the kids’ entertainment franchise “Rugrats.” A new animated-series revival featuring the characters from the ’90s cartoon has received with a 26-episode order from Nickelodeon; and Paramount Players, the new film division launched to develop projects based on properties from Viacom cable channels, has given a greenlight to a live-action film featuring CGI characters. Both the TV series and the movie will include new adventures with beloved characters Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, Susie and Angelica, and will also introduce a new world of characters.
Finallyyyyy Tommy Pickles WILL COME BACK TO YOUR TELEVISION SCREEN! Okay that’s a little extreme since I guess this won’t move the needle other than a slight nostalgia bump for most Stoolies. But for the youngest members of the #GoPresGo crowd as well as all the older, confirmed sex havers in the same boat as The Podfathers, this is big news. So many kids shows are weird as fuck or just plain old suck these days. But even though it’s been decades since I saw Rugrats, I’m like 90% certain it was good as hell. Yeah Tommy looked like white trash because he was always rocking the t-shirt and diaper look, Chucky was a scared little pussy, Phil & Lil let you know at a young age how weird some twins could be, and Angelica was a flat out BITCH. But it was still funny, entertaining, taught some good lessons, and occasionally threw parents a bone by keeping it real with some adult humor.
Based on Nick’s recent tweets, they still don’t mind getting in the mud a bit.
Didi Pickles was a freak and that’s a known fact
Add it all up and that’s pretty much exactly what I’m looking for in a show that I want to babysit my kids while I stare at my phone. I’d rather let their brains rot away watching a show I know vs. something I don’t know. Plus any form of entertainment responsible for two different bangers is A-OK in my book.
As for the live-action movie, I love the idea of it. Not because I want to take my kids out in public to a dark theater only to hope they stay quite and in their seats for 90+ minutes. But because I needed to get the foul taste of this movie being a real thing out of my mouth.
