Get Ready For Today's Celtics/Knicks Summer League Showdown By Reliving Rajon Rondo's Monster 2011 Series

Today’s the day folks. Later this afternoon the Celtics/Knicks will face off in the Vegas Summer League tournament for a little postseason action as they both begin the journey to the ever elusive Summer League banner. I figured what better way to prepare for this battle than to relive one of the more dominant playoff performances between these two, Rajon Rondo’s 20011 first round series. Now Knicks fans, no need to be sensitive, I am fully aware you beat the Celtics in 2013, that is in fact something that really happened. However, I’ll simply remind you the Celtics own a 290-181 head to head regular season record, a 36-31 head to head postseason record, and have won 8 series to the Knicks 7. But I don’t want to get sidetracked, let’s bring our focus back to how goddamn legit Rondo was in this series.

It was a quick 4 game sweep, with Rondo averaging a cool 19/12 on 50% shooting. He gave us a little bit of everything in this series, with a solid 21/5/12 in Game 1 to set the tone, then backing it up with a stupid triple double of 15/11/20 in Game 2. It certainly looked like this was going to be a cakewalk after the first two games were pretty much blowouts, but the Knicks fought back, sort of. With the last two games each being decided by 3 points or less, Rondo showed up in close games as well. His Game 3 in NY was one of my all time favorite Rondo performances with his 30/4/7 on 13-23 shooting, and then in the closeout game he nearly hit us with a more traditional Rondo triple double of 10/9/9. It was clear that Anthony Carter/Tony Douglas had no chance whatsoever in that point guard matchup, and it obviously hurt the Knicks that they only had Chauncey Billups for Game 4.

Now things will be a little different today, we won’t be getting the Big 3 vs Melo/Amare, but the stakes are just as high in my opinion. I need the Celtics/Knicks rivalry to become a thing again, I want nothing more than to see these two battle in the postseason for years to come. Today we get to see if any of these young guns are up for the challenge, and it starts with a fake basketball game with a fake banner on the line. We just have to get through most of our work day today people, then the madness begins.

Now, enjoy the dominance.
