What Is The Most Memorable Sporting Event You Attended?

I met a buddy last night for a couple of drinks and we started discussing memorable sporting events that we attended. I started debating what was the most memorable though. For me, I have a bit of a weird loyalty when it comes to teams. I’m a New York Giants, Knicks, Baltimore Orioles, Kentucky basketball and football fan. So I’ve seen a couple of big time wins while also seeing devastating losses in person.

That’s when I started the debate in my head that has carried over to this blog. What was more memorable for me? Seeing a crazy win or one of those losses that stuck with me. I was at the 2009 Giants/Eagles divisional round game where the Giants were the 1 seed and a favorite to go back to back before Plax shot himself. I’ll never forget the first possession for the Giants where Eli put a beautiful deep ball for Steve Smith who just couldn’t bring it in. Ultimately that was one where I just knew the game was over. Or I was at the Kentucky/Tennessee football game in 2007 where UK was trying to end a ridiculous losing streak and finish 4-4 in the SEC and 8 regular season wins. Everyone in my college house came back from Thanksgiving early for the game, only to lose in 4OTs. Yeah, that one is memorable for the wrong reason.

However, I think I’m going with Kentucky football as the most memorable game I’ve ever attended. It was the same year in 2007 when Kentucky started to figure some shit out. More importantly it was a warm October day when No. 1 LSU came to Lexington. 3 overtimes later, it was time to rush the field and then just a massive party all night since the game was at 3:30. The win moved Kentucky to No. 8 in the country and provided a couple plays that I’ll always remember. The first was Dicky Lyons Jr., absolutely blowing up Craig Steltz on a block. The other being Stevie Johnson catching his second game-winning touchdown, with the first being Stevie Got Loose vs Louisville (my runner up answer).

So what’s your answer?
