Are We Sure Dan Gilbert And Koby Altman Know How To Run The Cavs Without LeBron?

[Cleveland.com] - A source said the Cavs were offered on draft night the chance to trade up to No. 3 with the Hawks in a deal that would’ve sent Kent Bazemore to Cleveland. Instead, Atlanta swapped spots with No. 5 Dallas, and the Mavericks ended up with Luka Doncic while the Hawks landed Trae Young.

Now, obviously there would be more in this trade offer than just the No. 8 pick in order to move up and take on Bazemore’s contract. But, uh, why the hell aren’t you taking this offer if you’re Cleveland? You have a chance to take Doncic while also bringing on Bazemore, who, you know, is still a decent player. You need to find a way to rebuild after LeBron left and going with Doncic/Bazemore/Love in the first year isn’t the worst thing in the world.

It begs the question – are we sure Dan Gilbert/Koby Altman have any idea on what to do without LeBron there? I mean Gilbert always said he was willing to spend money, but now you don’t take on Bazemore’s contract in order to take someone like Doncic.

Sure, part of this is also the fact that I’m not super high on Collin Sexton. I’m not sure how well his game translates to the NBA, especially if he doesn’t shoot the ball well. I know a lot of people like to compare him to Russell Westbrook, but outside of that fuck you personality that’s about it. Westbrook is a much better distributor than Sexton. Westbrook is a better scorer than Sexton as well. I’d much rather have Doncic than Sexton, especially if you’re trying to make up for losing LeBron.

The next two seasons will say a lot about that Cavs front office and just how well they handle moves without LeBron. If there’s more moves like this that don’t happen, it’s fair to absolutely question them.
