Wake Up With An NBA Countdown: 10 Best Moments From Linsanity

Atlanta Hawks v New York Knicks

Good morning everybody, happy Wednesday! I figured since the entire city of New York and every Knicks fan on the planet is rather giddy about their next savior in Kevin Knox (with good reason, the kid has been NAILS), I figured what better way to start our morning than to time travel back to another ridiculously fun time in Knicks history, Linsanity. You don’t have to just be a Knicks fan to remember this time, because when Jeremy Lin busted onto the scene during the 2011-12 season, it felt like he took over the world. He was probably the biggest athlete on the planet for that near two month run, and it was with good reason too! Lin was incredible during the streak, ultimately landing him a $40M offer from the Rockets.

Jeremy Lin made his season debut on December 28th against the Warriors (this was before they were good). He played nearly 90 seconds, and barely played in any of the following games until January 28th against the Rockets. In this one Lin cracked 20 minutes and had 9/6, you may be saying to yourself this isn’t all that impressive, but it was our look into the future. A few days later, on February 2nd, Jeremy Lin got his first real burn with a legit 35 minutes of action in which he dropped 25/5/7 on 10-19 shooting against the Nets. From that moment on, Linsanity was born

I remember having to be in NY for work during that Lakers game in February, and I couldn’t tell you what bar I watched this game in but it was as if we were watching fucking Jordan. People were going nuts. That initial run for those first 11 games took over the globe, and what was cool was that even after teams started to get film on Lin, he still had a pretty solid March. When it was all said and done Lin played in 35 games that year for the Knicks and put up a very respectable 14.6/3.1/6.2/1.6 on 44/32% splits. The Knicks actually made the playoffs that year going 36-30 (lockout year) before ultimately losing in the first round to LeBron’s Heat. But since I’m not a Knicks fan it didn’t really bother me they got bounced early, the story of the year was this meteoric rise of Jeremy Lin, a guy many probably thought would be the point guard to lead the Knicks back to the promise land. I feel like NY always has a soft spot for point guards, and when you bust out on the scene like Lin did, of course everyone is going to freak out. It was warranted, similarly to how Knicks fans are currently reacting to Knox. The second he got real burn all he’s done is dominate, which would have any of us excited about a potential franchise player.

So Knicks fans, I hope you enjoy this countdown and it brings you back to a place of joy in your life. As a reminder, if there is any person you want to see in these countdowns, or a specific type of play, just list them in the comments below. In the meantime, enjoy the video and have yourself a kickass Wednesday!
